December 2017 Wrap Up

December 2017 Wrap Up

While I may be a bit behind schedule, I’ve actually managed to something blog related twice in a row: a monthly wrap up! And I’m feeling both especially proud of myself (go me!) AND super motivated to stay focused on mastering a workable blog schedule for myself. Despite not accomplishing everything I set out to in my December TBR, I came pretty close and I did make some alternate choices along the way.

December TBR Misses

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to start/finish Ginny Moon or Castle of Water, nor did I start Pachinko as I’d planned, but I’m eager to read all of them, so I’ll get to them at some point.

The good news is I didn’t DNF anything this month! While it actually helps whittle down my gargantuan galley pile, I always feel icky about it. It’s a good month when it’s DNF free.

And also in the good news section, part of the reason I didn’t get all my original goals accomplished is because I got sidelined by two books from my own TBR.

Let me repeat.

I read two books from my own TBR!

To give you an idea of how significant that is, out of the 110 books I read in 2017, only 17 were my books from my personal TBR (and that includes the two in this post!). It being the holidays, I decided I would gift myself with the option of reading a couple of my own books, and I don’t feel at all guilty about it. 😉

Unplanned Reads

I freakin’ love the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs and it was killing me to keep putting this one off because of galley guilt. And the cover of The Smell of Other People’s Houses is not only gorgeous (all those twinkly stars!), but it also seemed über appropriate for our current weather. Both were great reads!

In the end, I switched out two reads and wound up reading the number of books I intended, which isn’t too shabby. And I failed to start one of the two books I’d planned for January, but in all fairness, my plans for January have changed quite a bit. Ultimately, I’m calling my reading month for December a success. Stay tuned for my January plans…

How did your reading month go?

  1. You had a great month! Blogging has really taken so much time away from my reading and I think I’m just going to post my reviews for a while and step back from my weekly memes.

    Have a great week!!

    • I’ve been having the opposite battle! I spend so much time reading and writing reviews, that I feel like I don’t have time to create other kinds of content or update/grow the blog. 🙂

  2. You read some good ones this month. I am just starting with WWW Wednesday’s. I have pretty much just been blogging book reviews. My goal for December was to read as many Christmas books as possible. I didn’t do as well as I had hoped because of the other challenges I was in. For January, I am just going to read what I want and if it meets challenges, that is a bonus.

    • I had mostly been doing reviews as well, and not even very consistently. My goal now is two posts a week, and by the end of the year two review posts a week, plus one “other” post, whether it’s a meme or a series or whatever. For now, I’d like to get a few weeks ahead on reviews, so that I can take my time and figure out what else I want to do with the blog.

Sounds like January is going to be a wonderful month for you! Have fun. 🙂
