Review: If you love an unexpected twist, I Let You Go should be right up your alley. It wasn’t the frustrating kind of twist found in Gone Girl (I literally threw that book across the room, I was so pissed off – and it was a library book *cowers in shame*), it was more like…man, I knew something felt off, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it! And once you reach that twist, the ride begins.

This book is very smartly written. Every time I thought I knew what was coming next, some unexpected detail would come up to throw me for a loop. And the pace was really unusual. When I first began to read it, I thought…isn’t this a thriller? Why is it so character driven? Where is the action? But then the twist, and you understand why it had to be done that way, you understand the brilliance of Mackintosh’s approach.

Unlike many thriller/suspense novels, I did not find I Let You Go to be particularly formulaic or predictable. And it was a nice blend of “getting to know and care about the characters” with the expected bits of “oh my GOD, what is going to happen next?!?”.

And the ending…well, I don’t suppose I can really say anything without ruining the whole lot, but I’d love to hear what others think of it when they’re doing reading it.

Which they should do.
