Whatcha Readin’ Wednesday – 4/5/17 (#2)

Totally missed last week because – the plague. No. Not plaque. Plague. As in, if you’re in the market for some super nasty virus that wipes out your family like bowling pins and then makes sure to tag you last, come to my house. We’ve got more than we can handle. 😉

Seriously though, I’m kind of on my last leg here (or last lung, truth be told), and one of my kids is probably going to be in the market for some IV fluids tomorrow, so…how about a little book distraction, right?

It has been a slow week for me reading-wise:

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford: I never got where I wanted with this book. Just not feeling it, but I suspect I will love it at a later date, so it’s been shelved as a try-again-later.

One Perfect Lie by Lisa Scottoline: Sadly, DNF’d. My first Lisa Scottoline. And I love thrillers. I was really excited to read this. The premise sounded awesome, but…after 35%, I just couldn’t do it anymore. Definitely not a mood thing. I didn’t like it. The pace was way too slow and the characters fell flat for me. Maybe I’ll try something else by her in the future, but probably not for awhile.

The Shadow Land by Elizabeth Kostova: Only 10% in, but so far I like what I’m reading. While I have The Historian sitting on my bookshelf, I haven’t actually read it yet. Based on what I’ve read so far, I believe I will be pushing it up the TBR. The setting of Bulgaria is really compelling for my traveling soul and I’m a fool for historical fiction. Really expecting this book to bring it.

Next up is probably I Found You by Lisa Jewell or The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda. Very eager to read both.

What are YOU reading right now?

  1. Oh dear, I hope you all start to feel better soon. Better luck with the reading this week. It is tough to feel awful and then just not find something to help take your mind off things.

    • Thank you. Me, too. Hubby and one kid are almost fully recovered. My daughter escaped it entirely (knock on wood). My son and I are taking awhile to get back on track. Stinkin’ bronchitis for me and GI issues for him. We’re a sad lot. Hopefully all will be back to normal next week. 🙂
