Whatcha Readin’ Wednesday

Yes, I was really struggling to come up with a title for this post. No, I’m not that creative. Maybe it will be a regular thing (Whatcha Readin’ Wednesday, I mean. Me struggling to come up with creative post titles is definitely going to be a regular thing).

While I would love to be able to review everything I read, and it would be lovely if my schedule allowed me to post a certain number of reviews on regularly scheduled days, that’s not happening anytime soon. But I’d still like to find ways to talk about what I’m reading and what I’ve read in a slightly less formal way, so…I’m starting with Whatcha Readin’ Wednesday’s, where I’ll talk about…what I’m reading. 😀

At the moment, I’m actively in the midst of three books:

This book has been on my TBR for way, way too long. My son has been sick and I was trapped underneath him with only access to my phone, so I decided to read an iBook (of which I have few because I prefer reading on my Kindle) on my phone.

So far, it’s a slow start for me. While I’d  normally fall head over heels for this sort of book, I find I’m currently in a thriller/mystery/suspense/fast moving storyline phase. I’m going to keep plodding through a little at a time, hoping to find my groove with it.

Although this book was released years ago, I believe the next in series (#15), is coming out in April, so this first in series was available on NetGalley as a Read Now for a period of time. I happen to have #14 waiting to read and review (shhhh…don’t tell anyone I’m behind!), and because of the current reading phase I’m in (see above), I thought this would suit me right now.

I want to say I love it. Right now, I’ll say there are parts I love (hints at a paranormal twist to the series!), and parts that feel a little formulaic or maybe just “overplayed” (mob hits and skinning the victims). I’m hoping I’ll find more love for it as I progress.

At the moment, THIS book is all the things. I started it last night, and I’m a little in love with it. Sort of a modern gothic tale with all the wonderfulness that entails. I love a good ghost story, and I’ve enjoyed Carol Goodman’s work in the past. I’m feeling sorry that I didn’t start it sooner.

If I didn’t have a sick kid at home + snow days (yay, blizzard!) + homework, I’d be done with this book already. And I have a strong suspicion, I’d be missing it, too. Eager to pick it up back up again tonight.

I’m hoping to finish two of these by the end of the week. Next up is The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley by Hannah Tinti, a book I’ve been dying to get to.

What are YOU reading right now?

  1. I also tend to read more than one book at a time. I am reading The Island by Elin Hildebrand and Flipped for Murder by Maddie Day. I hope to start The Devil’s Triangle by Catherine Coulter and JT Ellison tonight or tomorrow morning

    • I used to read only one book at a time, but got out of that habit for several reasons. You just gave me a great idea for a blog post. 🙂

I’ve never read Elin Hildebrand, but I have The Matchmaker (I think?) on my bookshelf. I’ll keep an eye out for those reviews!
