Summary: The entire Baez family has been murdered – except for the sixteen-year-old daughter Roxie, who has gone missing. Was she kidnapped? Is she on the run? Is she hiding from the police because she murdered her family, or is she hiding from the murderer? Detective D.D. Warren is determined to find out, and with help from Flora Dane – the single survivor of a notorious serial killer – she just might find the answers – and the girl – she is looking for.
Review: Look for Me is the 9th book in Lisa Gardner’s “Detective D.D. Warren” series. It is not only the first book I’ve read from this series, it’s the first I’ve ever read by Lisa Gardner. It will certainly not be the last. Ms. Gardner spins a wonderful tale!
Because the series is named after her, I’m assuming that previous installments focus more heavily on Detective D.D. Warren, but in this case, I felt like the spotlight was really on survivor Flora Dane, and her unique contributions to the investigation. I don’t know if the intent is that her character will team up regularly with Detective Warren to give the series new life or if a spin-off series is in the works. Either would be fine with me because I dig Flora and her band of survivors.
As for the story itself, there were so many different pieces to the puzzle, that it took quite a while for me to put everything together. That said I did figure it out before it was revealed, and I wasn’t super happy with the choice of villain. Obviously, I can’t say why because spoilers, but if you read it/have read it and you know anything about my family, you’ll know why. I’m not afraid to admit it’s my own bias that is the issue, and ultimately, I still gave the book 5 stars because it was so entertaining.
Sad that I’m so late to the Lisa Gardner party, but happy to finally be on board!
