Goodreads Summary

“Sergeant Detective D. D. Warren confronts the strangest case of her career in this exclusive eBook short story by the #1 New York Times bestselling author.

D. D. Warren was pretty sure she’d seen it all. Then a man walks into police headquarters, attempting desperately to convince the squad that he’s dead. Explaining to him that he’s very much alive, they finally send him on his way . . . and then hours later, he turns up actually dead. And it’s on D. D. Warren to figure out how and why the dead man died . . . twice.”

Review

Short stories aren’t really my thing. Novellas? Same. Or, at least, that has been historically accurate. Lately, either because I’m changing as a reader or have simply been finding the right material, I find myself more and more drawn to short stories. The Guy Who Died Twice had the advantage of being part of the Detective D.D. Warren series by Lisa Gardner, a series and author that I’ve only recently discovered, but immediately fell heavily in like with.

Whether or not you are familiar with this series or author, if you like a craftily written mystery, this short story is for you. No background info is needed, and the story is really fun and creative. It astounds me how much quality storytelling can be accomplished in a short story. I walked away from this one fully satisfied, quite impressed, and hungry to jump into the next full-length novel in this series.

    • It was especially well done. I was hooked from the first few pages. If I’m being honest, I enjoyed it more than her latest novel (which I did enjoy and will be reviewing shortly).

  1. Wonderful review Myndi. I find some short stories/novellas seem incomplete and others blow me away. So glad you gave this one a chance and enjoyed it. I got a surprise approval for this one and really need to read it soon. I do love Lisa Gardner and DD Warren.
