Review

As a lifelong book lover, I’m a huge fan of book-related…anything. A collection of cute comics about being insanely in love with books and all the quirkiness that goes along with that? Sign. Me. Up. And it is no surprise that many book lovers love Book Love. However, I’m in the minority.

Don’t get me wrong. I liked it. The illustrations are cute. I related to most of the book nerd characterizations. But it wasn’t particularly fresh. There was nothing new on offer, so it just felt a bit cliché. Like something I see on my FB and Twitter feeds every day. Cute. Relatable. Likable. But not amazing.

    • Thank you! Honest but hopefully diplomatic. Promise if I ever write anything that could be perceived as rude, you’ll let me know. I always try to review with the author’s feelings in mind.

    • That’s a fair point. This is a quick read and I was reading it during a readathon. I think it’s really more of a coffee table book. Like, pick it up and read a few bits and move on. Also, I had in mind something along the lines of Sarah Andersen of Sarah’s Scribbles. She has this great strip called How I Spend Money and it’s about how she is a tightwad when it comes to clothes, groceries, toilet paper, etc. but when it comes to books – all bets are off. It’s really well done, a twist on something all book lovers say/do, but the presentation is fresh instead of cliche. That’s sort of what I was hoping for.
