Note: As stated under the Source (above), I received this book for free from Random House – Ballantine via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review (and trust me, honest is always what you’ll get).
Review: The body of a brutally murdered woman is found in the home of the infamous CEO of a constantly troubled clothing company. The CEO, known not only for the scandal surrounding the company he runs, but also for his own outrageous womanizing, is nowhere to be found.
Go back a few months and meet Emma. She has a troubled past, but believes her life has finally turned around when she falls in love with Jesper Orre (the very same CEO who goes missing at the time of the murder). How could a girl like her win the heart of a man who is so often accused of not having one?
Just when all seems right with the world, Emma’s life starts to fall apart, along with her sense of security. Is Jesper dismantling her life and her sanity inch by inch? And why?
Oh, such twisty turny goodness! For ages, I’ve been meaning to pick up one of the Scandinavian suspense/mystery/thriller authors my bookish friends have been raving about for years, and when I got the opportunity to read and review this one, I jumped at it. And I’m so glad I did! What a clever plot! You think you know what is going on until it becomes quite clear you don’t, and it’s such a fantastic ride! Great character development and the pace was wonderful. Truly enjoyed it!
My only complaint? I’d love to see it written as a series. The investigative team was such a pleasure to get to know, and I find myself wanting more of them.
