Sunday Summary: February 25th

Pretty recently, my book loving blogger buddy at Sandy’s Book a Day Blog started a weekly meme called Sandy’s Sunday Summary,Β where she gives an update on her reading week, as well as a glimpse into her reading future. While I have seen other similar memes out there, I appreciate that Sandy’s is on Sunday, which in my brain, is the end of the week. What better day to summarize the previous week and look forward to the next one than Sunday? So, with her permission, I’m joining in, but since my name isn’t Sandy, I’m just borrowing the “Sunday Summary” part of her meme title. Am I over-explaining? Me thinks so.

Welcome to my first week of Sunday Summary!

Books I Finished This Week

A review of Fever is on the books (see what I did there?) for next week, so I won’t get into how wonderful it is.

Windwitch is the sequel to Truthwitch, and after enjoying it so much last month, I wanted to get my hands on the next one as soon as possible. While it was good, it wasn’t as good, and I had a hard time really settling in with it. Still, it was a 4 star read, and I’ll probably read Sightwitch eventually.

Book I’m Currently Reading

I’ve just barely started both of these. I loved Jane Harper’s debut novel The Dry (5 solid stars!!!), and though it wasn’t part of my reading plan for February, my library hold came in so, I just had to read Force of Nature.

Gun Love is a galley by author Jennifer Clement. The first galley I ever received was her novel Prayers for the Stolen, which was both strange and tremendous. 13% into Gun Love, and I’m going out on a limb to say the same is true for this book: strange and tremendous.

Books I Plan to Start Next Week

Winter of the World is the second in The Century Trilogy by Ken Follett. I’m ready for some epic historical fiction and at 960 pages, this will be my first Uber Chunkster of the year.

Let Me Lie is a galley, the latest and greatest by the most brilliant Clare Mackintosh. I’ve read her previous two books and have been anticipating jumping into this one.

NetGalley Approvals for This Week

Though I love the cover, Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions originally didn’t seem like the kind of book I would enjoy, but then I read the synopsis, and I decided it might actually be just the thing I need.

I broke my requesting ban on day NINE because I saw The Cutting Edge by Jeffery Deaver. In truth, I didn’t think I’d get approved, but by next morning, it was sitting on my shelf! Though I love this series, I’m not caught up, so I suspect I will be reading this one a bit out of order. πŸ™‚

On a Personal Note

This past week, I’ve fallen a bit behind. My kids had the week off of school, and ever so conveniently, it was the week of my finals for university. Yay? Needless to say, things are a bit in shambles, and I’m playing catch up. Really, the whole month (past few months?), keeping up has felt like a struggle, so I’m sort of amazed that I’m ahead of schedule in a few areas.

The coming week is going to be filled with volunteering at my children’s school (my first week, all three classes!), doing some more sewing for my daughter’s impending baby (did I mention my oldest is having my first grandchild in April?!?!?), getting my grow room constructed to start my vegetable garden in advance of the thaw, finalizing reading plans for March, and other things which I’m forgetting because sitting here typing it is stressing me out. Thank goodness for my bullet journal. Oh, and my wedding anniversary is on Wednesday, so lunch with the hubs.

So there you go. My first Sunday Summary. What’s going on in your reading world this coming week?

Thanks again to Sandy for the wonderful idea! Please check out her blog for wonderful reviews and other bookish things!

    • Thank you! And thank you for the validation. Sometimes I feel like it can’t possibly be as much as it feels like it is. Definitely feels like a heavy load to me this week.

  1. My kids were home this week too! My hubs has been home for two weeks with two different bouts of the flu! I feel your pain!😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

    • Excellent. I read it and then listened to it on audiobook to refresh my memory. I found the narrator of the audiobook to be meh (why is it so hard to not make the voices of the characters annoying?), but it turns out I didn’t really need my memory refreshed. I’ve been looking forward to jumping back into this trilogy. Very well done historical fiction.

  2. You, my dear, are way too busy. Congratulations on the future grandchild, they are wonderful to behold, but with your youngest still young, it might be different for you. Looks like some great reads ahead. I hope you did well on your exams. Take some time to breathe, maybe while planting.

    • Yes, too busy, indeed. I’m excited about the grandbaby, but it seems a little surreal. My daughter lives on the other side of the country, so I don’t get to see her much. As for my finals, I did great. Thank you for the well wishes!
