Weekly Update #5

Getting back into the groove of things is never as easy for me as it feels like it should be (so it should be no surprise that half of my kids struggle with transitions!). The kids first week of school was also my first week of school, and all of us were a bit overwhelmed. Needless to say, my reading life suffered.

I finished one book. I started one book. And I wrote zero new reviews, despite the fact that I am seven reviews behind. I believe I also posted zero reviews (despite the fact that I have at least half a dozen written, but not posted!). But, it’s the first week. In a few weeks, I’ll find my sweet spot with school work, the kids will acclimate to being back in school, and I’ll find a way to squeeze everything in (or figure out what has to go!). Β And I’m in the home stretch with school (as long as I don’t pursue my Masters, which is definitely a possibility, though I might take some time off before deciding). Deep breaths and one step forward, right? And Xanax when needed. πŸ˜‰

  1. I sat and did a bunch of mini reviews on the books I read to my grandkids on the weekend. I am looking forward to reading The Lighthouse Keeper’s Daughter and Dear Mrs. Bird. (Neither on my original September list)

    • Both of those books sound really interesting! And kudos to you for having a September list. As per usual, I have more galleys than I could possibly read (never mind the pile of library holds that came in!), and I’m trying to figure out how to decide what to read this month! Makes me feel better that half way through the month, you’re already changing your plans. Mood readers unite!

    • If there is one book I’m reading this month, it’s going to be 7.5 Deaths, if for no other reason than I’ve had it for a long, LONG time. But conceptually, it is really appealing, so it’s really a win-win!

  2. I have lost count how many reviews i’m behind on, but then i told myself “being behind” is just a concept, and it’s not like a job deadline.
Evelyn Hardcastle is on my list as well! <3 It sounds very intriguing.

    • I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things about Evelyn Hardcastle, so I’m looking forward to it. And I agree with “being behind” just being a concept, it isn’t as if there is compensation involved (though I’d be thrilled to read and blog for 40 hours a week and get paid a living wage for it), or at least my logical brain knows that. However, the part of my brain that produces guilt (at an alarming rate, I might add!) isn’t on the same page. πŸ˜‰

      • Haha, yes, if blogging was job and i got a salary for it then it would be different πŸ˜€
I get the being guilty thing tho. I felt like, since i requested those books i kinda need to “give” something in return. :/
Somehow i managed to get rid of this feeling tho a few months ago and it’s been great, i must say πŸ˜€

        • It’s one of the things I’m working on, letting go a little. It isn’t like the guilt creates more time or makes the pile smaller. 🀣
